Brittany Cankar

Here's me at the top of Mont Blanc!
Hello, everyone!  My name is Brittany Cankar and I teach math in the upper school at CSN.  I have been extremely fortunate to become friends with awesome people like Jimmi and Scott and I'm so excited about this trip!  Here's a little background on me:
Prior to moving to Naples and teaching at CSN, I would have never dreamed of traveling out of the country.  It simply wasn't something that my family or anyone that I knew ever did.  Besides an annual spring break trip to Florida, I really didn't travel.  Since I've been at CSN, I have traveled to Washington, D.C., New Hampshire, Colorado, Switzerland, and New York.  All of these opportunities have inspired me to travel as often as I possibly can.

When Jimmi told me about this trip, I jumped at the chance to combine my new love of traveling with service - something that I have always been passionate about.  I'm excited to experience a new place and even more thrilled to see our students interact with the children in Saboga.

Jimmi and Scott Stevens

Scott and I are excited to return to Panama again!  This photo is from our grocery shopping trip before catching the ferry to Saboga.  Because the island is 35 miles off the coast of Panama City, and there are no real stores, all supplies need to be carried on the ferry.

A little background on me.  I have been teaching Spanish for 23 years.  The first 16 years where in Oklahoma and the last 7 have been at Community School of Naples in southwest Florida.  Along the way, I have traveled quite a lot, mostly in Latin America.  At the age of 19, I set the goal to visit all the "official" Spanish-speaking countries.  I still lack seven.  I have made many repeat trips to my favorite countries like Peru, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico and Panama.  This trip is extra special to me because I get to bring some wonderful, service-minded students along.  I am also thrilled that my sister, niece and a few close friends are also joining the adventure.

My husband Scott is an excellent travel buddy.  He is always in a good mood and has all hands on deck to help me and everyone else.  He owns a handyman business and is a jack-of-all-trades.
